What is Monat?

Monat Global Corporation is a multi-level marketing business operating under the Alcora Corporation and is based in Doral, Florida. They operate in the US, Canada, and the EU. They have been in business since 2014 and sell hair and skin care products as well as a few grooming products for pets.

Monat states their anti-aging hair care products are naturally based and clinically proven to promote hair growth and health. Their products are free of parabens, silicones, and harsh chemicals. The product line is also vegan and cruelty-free.

Monat attempts to disguise their multi-level marketing business as a direct sales and social marketing business model that bypasses traditional retail channels in favor of a person-to-person focus. In the first few years of operation, the company had a lot of great media attention and interest. However, in the last few years, the company has suffered negative press regarding class action suits, questionable manufacturing processes, and countless product complaints.

Are Monat Products Worth Their Price? 

Monat brags that it is natural and sulfate-free. Well, if you take a look at their ingredients, I beg to differ on the all-natural claim. There are some words I can’t even attempt to pronounce.

Monat advertises their products as safe, healthy, and non-toxic. There is a list of ingredients they claim they don’t use. There are critics that argue that Monat’s ingredients can be categorized into the ingredients they say are “off-limits.” Then there are others that claim the products don’t contain the banned ingredients.

In my opinion for the record in this Monat MLM Review, I feel the products are extremely overpriced considering they can be bought on eBay and Amazon at a possibly lower cost than what a Monat Market Partner can get. Also, there are questionable manufacturing standards and the possibility of toxic ingredient use.

Can You Make Money With Monet?

Why do MLM’s exaggerate about income potential? Because, if they were truthful and said you would be working like a dog to make $100 a week, how many people would jump aboard? When you hear the word “unlimited,” you should run like the wind. Please don’t ever believe you will make ‘big’ money in a ‘short’ amount of time.

Many will tell you your results will depend on your hard work and effort. I am here to tell you statistics show that 99.7% of people who join MLMs will lose money! Monat Global is included in that statistic. Finding their income disclosure sheet was like looking for a needle in a haystack. Thankfully, the Fraud Files at Sequence, Inc. had the information posted, and you can take a look at it below.

The number of products a Market Partner would need to sell to make a full-time income is virtually impossible. There aren’t enough hours in the day for a person to take on that challenge.

The companies showcase their top earners but, those people at the top are not selling Monat products, instead, they are using their time to recruit people into their downline.

Don’t fool yourself, recruiting is exclusively the only road that leads to advancement in rank where higher income is possible.

Is Monat Legitimate and Ethical?

Monat is a legitimate company, but that does not always mean a business is ethical. Monat has been the subject of numerous lawsuits and hundreds of complaints to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Customers have reported hair damage, balding, and scalp sores. Many have also said they have difficulty canceling their automatic shipments.

Trouble with the Law

In March 2019, the FDA reported that Monat’s manufacturing facility in Florida had several products that were prepared, packed, or held under unsanitary conditions where they could have become contaminated with filth. Miami, Florida’s U.S. District Court felt there was enough evidence in the report to allow a consumer class action lawsuit against Monat. Monat fired back by filing defamation lawsuits against people who reported them to the FDA and BBB.

The judge ruled that Monat’s products had been defectively designed using contaminated chemicals and the company failed to make sure their products were safe and delivered contaminated products to their consumers.

More Trouble

In another investigation in 2018, Monat agreed to pay $250,000 to cover the state’s attorneys fees, costs, and investigative fees, and to refund at least $82,782 to customers whose complaints were reviewed in the investigation. There were 21 complaints to the attorney general’s office and 874 complaints to the Better Business Burea. Monat agreed to disclose its terms and conditions before obtaining customers’ billing information and/or charging the consumer’s credit card, debit card, or bank account. The following list is what Monat agreed not to do:

• Making any representation “about the health benefits, safety, performance, or efficacy” of any of its products unless it “possesses and relies upon Competent and Reliable Scientific Evidence … to substantiate that the representation is true.”
• Misrepresenting that a product “causes hair loss because your scalp is detoxifying and the hair follicles are enlarging.”
• Misrepresenting that a product “is clinically proven to increase hair growth and significantly decrease hair loss.”
• Misrepresenting that the benefits of its products “are scientifically proven” or that independent lab tests confirm their safety and effectiveness.
• Misrepresenting that the company was certified by any entity, including governmental entities.
• Misrepresenting that a product “does not and never will contain polyethylene glycol, petrochemicals, sulfates, harmful fragrances, and harmful colors,” and that its products are “100% vegan or gluten-free.”
• Misrepresenting that customers are receiving a 100% money-back, satisfaction guarantee, and the total cost that will be incurred as a result of accepting a discount.
• “Falsely or deceptively using stock photos as ‘before and after photos’ in its advertisements.

“We’ve have been working closely with the Florida attorney general’s office to address a number of matters related to customer relations and our rapid growth since 2017. After a lengthy process, we are pleased this matter has come to a close with no findings of wrongdoing.

“We grew incredibly fast in 2017 and 2018 — faster than we expected. We also grew faster than we were prepared for and as a result, we had some issues to address. Those issues have now been resolved.”

Questionable Social Media Posts

Monat posted social media memes that preyed on the chaos, anxiety, and uncertainty of millions of unemployed Americans during the “stay-at-home-order.” at the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic. Monat turned up their marketing to recruit new distributors and customers to purchase their products. Independent sales representatives (Market Partners) were asked about the posts but they are forbidden to talk with the media due to Monat’s company policy. If that isn’t a red flag, I don’t know what is. Business Insider had captured a screenshot of the posts before Monat deleted them from their social media page after public backlash.

Final Thoughts

Monat has suffered a large amount of negative publicity, complaints from customers and Market Partners as well. I do believe Monat is a legitimate business, but their ethical business practices are questionable. Success with Monat would be challenging with the dark cloud hanging over their reputation.

In my other MLM business reviews, as well as Monat Global, the importance of recruiting others far outweighs the importance of selling their products when it comes to making income. My recommendation is to walk on by Monat and never look back.
